64 Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) celebrated Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival at 64 Division grounds in Oddusudan, Mullaittivu on Friday (20).
The typical 'Soorya Mangallaya' of the 64 Division was aimed at further promoting spirits of goodwill, reconciliation, ethnic harmony and peaceful co-existence that brings about the birth of new hopes and best wishes. It was arranged on the directions of Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, General Officer Commanding, 64 Division with the blessings of Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu (SF-MLT).
Afterwards, entertaining features began with the participation of soldiers. pillow-fighting, tug-of-war, bun eating, eye-placing on the elephant and a number of other traditional and fun-making games dominated the day’s proceedings.
During the festival, the Commander, SF-MLT and GOC, 64 Division and several Senior Officers gave away gifts to the winners.
At the end of the New Year festival, a tea-table with traditional sweetmeats treated all the participants.
More than 1000 troops and civil employees took part in the proceedings.
