An awareness programme on ‘child abuses and prevention’ was conducted for the second consecutive time in the Security Force Headquarters – Wanni (SF-W) auditorium on Sunday (25) to educate troops of under command formations and their families on instances of child abuses and repercussions of the same when such children become adults and ill effects of present day social trends and social media.
As an initiative of the Commander, Security Forces -Wanni (SFHQ-W), Major General Kumudu Perera, the programme was held at the SFHQ-Wanni on Sunday for an audience of over 600 troops and their family members.
The Chief Inspector of Police, attached to the Child and Women’s Bureau, Mr Manoj Samarasekara delivered an important lecture on child abuses, ill-treatment and effects of social media/anti-social trends.
He highlighted several incidents of criminal nature and stated that most perpetrators themselves are ones that have suffered similarly during their early childhood.
Further, he emphasized the importance of restoring moral values and ethics in the society to prevent crimes against children.
The Commander, SF-W, Major General Kumudu Perera was the Chief Guest with the Brigadier General Staff and other officers attending the event.
