Battle-affected 10 War Heroes of the Army, now under recuperation and rehabilitation at different Army wellness resorts, following a new initiative, taken by the Army Directorate of Rehabilitation, consequent upon a conceptual notion, suggested by the Commander of the Army, left here on Saturday (23) on a week-long pilgrimage to Dambadiva (India) and Nepal for the first time in their life.
The arrangement, organized under the close supervision of the Adjutant General, Major General Shavendra Silva and Brigadier S.K Thirunavukarasu, Director Rehabilitation, would enable those War Heroes to worship Bodhgaya, Varanasi, Kushinagar, etc in India, Lumbini in Nepal and many other sacred places. They are accompanied by one medical officer, two male nurses and an attendant, according to the Directorate of Rehabilitation.
Colonel Vajira Kariyawasam, himself a battle-affected Senior Officer residing at Mihindu Seth Medura will act as the group leader. Army War Heroes, resident at Abimansala 1, 2, 3, Mihindu Seth Medura and Ragama Ranaviru Sevana have been selected for this pioneering project of the Army.
During their stay in India and Nepal, the Army has finalized all arrangements to check them into proper accommodation facilities, considering their disabled nature and other vital requirements. The pilgrimage ends on Saturday (30).
