COMMANDER OF THE ARMY, Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka upon his recent assumption of office as Commander formally called on the Prime Minister Mr Ratnasiri Wikramanayake who is also the Deputy Minister of Defence on Monday (12) afternoon.
This was the Commander's first visit to the Prime Minister after he took over reins as Commander. During his meeting with the Premier at the Premier's Office on the Flower Road, Colombo 7, he presented a memento to the Premier to signify the occasion.
Army Commander Lt. Gen Fonseka afterwards made his first official visit to the Secretary Defence Lt Colonel Gotabhaya Rajapakse (retd) at his office in the Ministry of Defence. Both of them exchanged views on matters of security concern during the meeting.
To symbolize the occasion, the visiting Commander presented a memento to the Defence Secretary before the Commander took leave.
