LT GEN SARATH FONSEKA MAKES HIS FIRST VISIT TO MILITARY HOSPITAL AFTER ASSUMING COMMAND

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka together with Mrs. Anoma Fonseka and many other Senior Officers visited the Military hospital at Army Headquarters today (08 December) afternoon.

This was his first official visit to the Military hospital after assuming Command of the Sri Lanka Army on 06 December 2005.

Colonel S.H. Munasinghe, Director Medical Services (DMS) and Lieutenant Colonel K.P. Sumanapala, Commanding Officer (CO), Military hospital, received the Commander of the Army on his arrival at the main entrance to the hospital building complex.

He was later guided to the wards where Army Officers, Other Ranks and their family members are undergoing treatment.

The new Army Commander visited all wards in the hospital inquiring the health of resident patients. Lt Gen Sarath Fonseka, during his visit to different departments in the hospital, discussed with Doctors and the staff measures needed to improve standards of the hospital and enhance facilities to resident patients as well as outdoor patients.

Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka and Mrs. Anoma Fonseka distributed gift parcels to resident patients and wished them fast recovery.

Major General Nanda Mallawaarachchi, Chief of Staff designate Sri Lanka Army, also joined the Commander during his hospital visit. On this occasion, a special donation made by Prof Tissa Kappagoda and Medical staff at Barton Memorial Hospital in University of California Davis, USA, was handed over to the Commander by Major General M.U.B. Edirisinghe, Adjutant General, on behalf of those philanthropists.

This donation, worth over many millions of Rupees, included a large stock of Medical items and some clothes to be distributed for the use of Medical Staff and patients. Commander of the Army who received the donation extended his gratitude to Sri Lankan expatriates in USA headed by Prof. Tissa Kappagoda for identifying the needs in the hospital and coming forward to help supply of those urgent requirements. Commander, acknowledging the donation, handed over a few boxes of medical items to Lt Col K.P. Sumanapala, CO Military Hospital, symbolizing the donation of items to the hospital.
