53rd Anniversary of Army Engineers Celebrated

The Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers celebrated its 53rd anniversary on 9th November 2004. Since their inception of Corps, the Sri Lanka Engineers have rendered a yeoman service to the Sri Lanka Army and to the country at large. They have successfully carried out numerous military operational tasks as well as a large number of major national development projects.

Among many activities that took place to mark this special occasion, the inauguration of the Regimental Museum was a historic event that made this year's celebrations very special. The Regimental Museum, for preserving its valuable history and heritage for the future generations, was a long felt need of Sappers.

The ceremony, was held on 13th November 2004 at the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering, Embilipitiya. The Chief Guest was none other than Brigadier PD Ramanayake, who is considered the father of the Sri Lanka Engineers, being the first officer to command an Engineer unit i.e. 1 Field Engineer Regiment. The former Army Commanders, Lieutenant General JED Perera VSV and Lieutenant General GDGN Senavirathna VSV were among many other serving and retired Engineer officers and their ladies who graced this occasion on the invitation of Major General MDS Chandrapala RWP RSP USP ndu psc; the incumbent Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.
