Lighting of 84,000 coconut oil lamps, recital of devotional songs, display of colourful and creative lanterns became the magnificent spectacle for thousands of Jaffna civilians on Poson Day (21) who thronged Naga Vihara and the grounds at Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya in Jaffna to commemorate arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
The Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna in cooperation with the troops in 51 Division was instrumental in organizing the mammoth commemoration in Jaffna under the auspices of Major General Sunil Tennakoon, Commander Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna.
All segments of Jaffna folk, many of who have witnessed those meritorious and commemorative features with their small children were seen eagerly watching those colourful events symbolizing amity being maintained between troops and the general public in the peninsula.
Many devotees from the south also joined those commemorative events of the Day along with many Tamils and members of the Armed Forces. The programme continues on Wednesday (22) too.
