CH & FC teams, regardless of their many unbroken records, suffered a humiliating defeat on Saturday (19) at the Army grounds when the Army ruggerites crushed their rivals during their encounter.
This was the sixth match of the Caltex A Division League Rugby Championship tournament. The Army team has hitherto been able to secure four wins out of six encounters they have so far fought. Soldiers bagged 2 goals, 2 tries and gathered 30 points against 13 of CH & FC at the final turn of the match.
Army's Duminda started off the task of scoring points for the team, backed heavily by Kapila Knowlten.
Army Commander Lt. General S. H. S Kottegoda, Major General Sarath Fonseka, Army Chief of Staff, Major General H. M. N. Krishnarathne, Commander, Logistics Command, Brigadier J. P. M. Jayawardene, Coach and the Brigadier R. M. D. Rathnayaka, Vice Chairman Army Rugby Committee and a large crowd of rugby fans attended the event.
