IPSOTSL starts off seminar on Asia-Pacific Enhanced Peace Keeping Operations

A five-day long United Nations seminar on Asia-Pacific Enhanced Peace Keeping Operations is now under way at Army Institute for Peace Support Operations Training-Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) at Kukuleganga, attended by representatives from 21 countries.

Seven Army officers, two Navy officers, two Air Force officers, two Police officers, officials of the Peace Secretariat, Ministry of Defence and Attorney General's department, represent Sri Lanka during the sessions that would end on Friday (10).

Representatives from Bangladesh, Malaysia, Cambodia, Philippines, Korea, Nepal, Madagascar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Singapore, PNG, Tonga, Fiji, Thailand, Maldives, Mauritius, Brunei, and Vanuatu led by retired Colonel Randy Stansfield (USA) and Lt Colonel John Derrick (Malaysia) are attending the sessions.

Monday's opening ceremony, graced by Mr. James F. Entuistle, US Deputy Chief of Mission in Colombo as Chief Guest was also attended by Major General Nanda Mallawaarachchi, Director General, General Staff Major General (Retd) K.B Egodawele, Chief Executive Officer at IPSOTSL and several other Senior Officers of the Army.

Mr. James F. Entuistle and Major General Nanda Mallawaarachchi in their brief addresses stressed the importance of the seminar in view of UN peace assignments. All thirty-eight participants are also expected to meet with one another for exchange of their experiences and views at the end of the sessions.
