Security Forces Authorities, after considering a few LTTE requests for facilitation of their cadres in the government controlled areas have positively responded and acceded to three of these requests but not to two other ones due to prevailing unstable security situation in the east.
LTTE has sought escort from the Security Forces through Norwegian Embassy for their two members, namely Sellathurai Santhiyamohan alias Nimalan and Satthiyasekaran Thiyaparan alias Pulichcholan who returned from Europe Saturday (28) afternoon. Ministry of Defence (MoD) has given approval and agreed to provide security for them from Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo up to Omanthai tomorrow (29) by road.
Meanwhile, Swarnam and four other LTTE members were taken from Sampoor to Kilinochchi by air on 2 May but the MoD has declined to facilitate their return journey from Kilinochchi to Sampoor on 27 May due to security situation in the Sampoor area.
Another air movement on 13 May took place on the approval of MoD when Bhanu and five others of the LTTE went from Karadiyanaru to Kilinochchi. The request for their return journey from Kilinochchi to Kradiyanaru, scheduled on 2 June, has been forwarded to the MoD for approval.
The security situation prevailing in the east has compelled the MoD to reject another request made by the LTTE through the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) to allow their passage from Omanthai to Black Bridge and back from Black Bridge to Omanthai.
However, the MoD in many earlier instances has ensured safe passage for the LTTE to move into the government controlled areas whenever the security situation was stable.
