Devotional songs culminate Vesak commemorations

Annual Vesak commemorations in the Army reached its climax at the weekend with bevy of Army women soldiers joined hands together to add a blend of musicality to the buddhist phenomenon by way of devotional songs, popularly known as “Bhakti Gee”

The Army grounds at Headquarters, generally used for tough sport encounters, became colourfully decorated and sanctified as lamp-carrying women soldiers began their way towards the stage after Commander of the Army Lt General Shantha Kottegoda as Chief Guest, with his Senior Officers took seats to witness the spectacle. .

Mrs. Sonia Kotteoda, Major General H.M.N Krishnarathne, Commander Logistics Command and Major General Shyaman Kulathunge General Officer Commanding were also in attendance.

Musicians and singers of the Sri Lanka Army Band were the ones who wrote, composed and backed those odes to the Enlightened One and His doctrine Tokens of appreciation for the best group of vocalists were also awarded by the Commander at the end of day's programme.
