TNCC Demands Stern Action Against LTTE Supporters

TAKING A CUE from the critical remarks by the AICC (All Indian Congress Committee) over a poem by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi eulogising slain senior LTTE leader SP Tamil Selvan, the TNCC (Tamil Nadu Congress Committee) on Monday (19) demanded stern action by the state government against the supporters of the banned outfit.

The TNCC president M Krishnaswamy, attending office for the first time after he was attacked by unidentified persons near Mathukalathur in Ramanathapuram district on October 29, told reporters on Monday that the activities of LTTE supporters should not be tolerated.

He said the \'elements\', praising the slain LTTE political wing secretary Tamilselvan, should be dealt with firmly.

The AICC in a resolution had said that sentiments were bound to get hurt by such eulogies.

On the attack on him, Krishnaswamy said the Police should take action against those responsible for it. Already some persons have been arrested in this connection, he said. The state government has ordered a probe by a senior IAS officer M Farooki.

Condemning the attack on the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress President Mayura S Jayakumar, he said violence had no place in the Congress. Action would be taken against those responsible for the attack.

Earlier, he paid floral tributes to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 90th birth anniversary. He garlanded the huge portrait of the late leader at the TNCC headquarters. (Courtesy; The Island)
