Sri Lanka Army\'s Amateur Wrestlers beat their opponents in the recently concluded National Amateur Wrestlers Tournament-2004 that went on the boards during the weekend (Aug 7-8) at Ragama Basilica College\'s Vijaya Kumaratunga hall.
Army wrestlers who carried away the overall Champion trophy showed their best colours in eight out of nine weight class categories securing the first place after giving a tough resistance to their rivals.
The tournament, organized by Sri Lanka Wrestling Association with the able guidance of the Army's Wrestling Committee, presided by Colonel V. U. B Nanayakkara and drew a large gathering of spectators. Trophies were also won by the Army in second and third places during the tournament while the Colombo Municipal Council team grabbed the Runners-up in the tournament. Western Provincial Council Member Edward Silva, a former wrestler cum sportsman gracing the occasion as Chief Guest gave away trophies and certificates at the end of the day.
