A number of long-felt medical necessities and other requirements at Palaly Army Base Hospital were realized on 21 July morning after several new wings in the premises were declared open for the benefit of troops by Major General M.D.S Chandrapala, Commander Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna).
The new ward complex, now equipped with an Electro Cardiogram (ECG) unit, office for on-call doctors and mess facilities for hospital inmates cost Sri Lanka Army about Rs 800,000. These new wings would enormously facilitate the smooth conduct of hospital affairs, increasing hospital's effective functioning, benefiting both patients and the staff. A new auditorium plus another fully-equipped ward is also to be built shortly before the end of the year.
Major N.P.P Pakshaweera welcomed Major General Chandrapala at the entrance on arrival before he was ushered to the new complex, constructed completely by the 51 Engineer Squadron under 5 Engineer Services Regiment for formal opening.
A large gathering of Senior Officers and Other Ranks including General Officers Commanding for 52 and 53 Divisions attended the opening ceremony.
