The eleventh course on Advanced Infantry Operation for Platoon Training, conducted for Volunteer Force soldiers in Jaffna peninsula ended recently following a colourful Passing-out parade, held at Training School for Advanced Infantry Operation (Air Combat Training School) at Eluthumaduval.
The one-month long training session, followed by eight Officers and 265 Soldiers, has been designed to improve professional standards and military spirits of Soldiers and Officers.
The course enhances ability of tolerance under trying circumstances and long marches, clearing of military obstacles and knowledge on guerrilla training, leadership, field craft, weapon training, live firing and tactics.
This strenuous training given by skilled trainers from the Air Combat Brigade imparts knowledge that qualifies a soldier to become professional in his craft while improving his own physical fitness.
Regiments including 7 Volunteer (V) Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC), 7 (V) SriLanka Light Infantry, 11(V) Gajaba Regiment (GR), 15 (V) GR, 2 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry regiment (VIR), 3(V) VIR, 10 (V) VIR and 12 (V) VIR participated in the Course.
Second Lieutenant I. L. Hettiarachchi from 7 (V) SLAC with the highest aggregate in overall performance during the course, won the award for the Best Student in the Course
In the ceremony, graced by Major General W.U.B.Edirisinghe, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division and other Senior Officers, merit awards and certificates for those who were adjudged as the Best Shot, Other Rank Best in Physical Training and the Best Instructor were given away.
A gathering of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks representing respective units and regiments witnessed the occasion.
