VAVUNIYA: AS SPORADIC CLASHES continued between troops and Tiger terrorists in PERIYATHAMPANAI area in VAVUNIYA during daytime Friday (7) troops successfully retaliated and repulsed several Tiger offensives and neutralized an LTTE mortar location by launching a concentrated artillery attack on it.
Heavy damages on LTTE were reported from the confronted areas in PERIYATHAMPANAI while the troops have lost one soldier in clashes.
Two more soldiers were also sustained minor injuries and treated from local hospitals.
Troops maintain that a large number of other Tiger cadres would have either killed or severely injured in the clashes.
Damages to the LTTE are yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, troops in PALAMODAI area the same day (7) valiantly attacked a Tiger bunker in the area and killed four terrorists while razing the bunker to the ground around 3.30 p.m.
Intercepted LTTE radio communication later revealed that three more Tiger cadres were also injured in the incident.
Troops after the successful raid reported to their bases with no injuries.
