VAVUNIYA: TROOPS on foot patrol in the general area of PERIYAMURIPPU, a border village to WILPATTU jungle, south of MANNAR-MEDAWACHCHIYA (A-14) road, found a stock of explosives Saturday (21) afternoon around 2.20 p.m..
Two anti tank mines of 6 kg and 8 kg, two claymore mines of 12 kg and 25 kg and twelve hand grenades were among the recovery which was found buried in the soil closer to the jungle.
It is believed that those explosives had been brought to the area by LTTE terrorists and kept concealed to use for another destruction targeting either civilians or Security Forces.
However, timely detection of the items prevented another bloodbath by the LTTE terrorists.
