US Diplomats Visit Jaffna For Assessment

United States\'s Ambassador for Sri Lanka Mr E. Ashley Wills on Tuesday (March 11) toured Jaffna in a bid to receive an on-the-spot evaluation of the developments taking place there.

US Ambassador and his entourage on arrival at Palaly airport was received by Commander Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) Major General Sarath Fonseka RWP RSP psc. who also briefed the delegates on the continuing security arrangements in the Jaffna peninsula. Major General D. Rathnasabhapathy RWP RSP USP, Deputy Commander Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) was also associated with this briefing.

The visiting delegates later on met Jaffna Bishop and several other religious dignitaries at Bishop's official residence and discussed matters of social, religious and cultural importance to the people of Jaffna.

Towards the latter part of their itinerary, they met a representative gathering of Parliamentarians and local political leaders where they shared views on political and other matters that have direct relevance to the people. The US delegation did not fail to visit the renovated Jaffna library and Nallur Kovil (temple) before they left for Colombo, the same day.
