LTTE Minor Conscripts Bear the Brunt of Costs of so-called “Liberation”

INCIDENCE of LTTE desertions, untimely deaths, dearth of recruits or conscripts and non-availability of chances for weapon training has posed a severe blow to the sustenance of the terrorist outfit, according to reliable information reaching law enforcement authorities in Jaffna and Wanni.

As the news on deaths of LTTE minors deployed on terrorists' forward defence lines broke, parents as well as the general public had openly expressed their outrage and revulsion since the LTTE has simultaneously launched a sinister campaign to terrorize families rejecting to send in their minors as LTTE canon fodder.

While blatantly flouting internationally recognized humanitarian laws and international conventions, all global organizations such as the UN, UNICEF, Save the Children, etc for the last few years went on appealing the LTTE to shun the practice of using minors as combatants and canon fodders, but the LTTE ignored all such appeals.

Those teenagers and minors who sought safety after surrendering to the Security Forces in their harrowing tales narrated their ordeals under LTTE referring even to some instances of child abuse. They have been well-documented and relayed to necessary authorities.

Their revelations affirm that atrocities and other torture, lack of food and sanitation, non payment of wages as promised, deployment of minors as shields and more importantly, vanity of the so-called losing cause for separatism are attributable to this situation. Reports also speak how some of them have lamented crying for their inability to pursue studies in their schools. Strangely enough, some of the parents have forced those minors to join the LTTE for their own survival since Tiger gunmen are behind those elderly people. This was evident through the letters that were recovered from recently dead female LTTE cadres in Mannar, who were bitterly critical of the organization and the parents.

Detection of more and more dead bodies of minors on LTTE defence lines and in confrontations asserts that terrorist outfit is now undergoing a critical phase as far as their recruitment is concerned. Let the so-called “liberators of Tamil people” at least now realize the gravity of what they have been doing to their own budding generation.
