Terrorists Confronted &; Explosives Recovered

NORTH, WANNI & EAST: TROOPS CONTINUING their offensives and searches in the north and Wanni areas during Wednesday (07) launched several attacks and recovered more and more explosives and weapons.

At least ten Tiger terrorists were feared killed and dozens injured when troops confronted a group of terrorists in the general area of WELIOYA and KOKKUTHUDUWAI during day time on Wednesday (6).

Troops received no injuries in the clash and went on clearing the area recovering LTTE warlike items.

Meanwhile, as reported on Wednesday (6) confrontations at KOKKUTHUDUWAI between troops and LTTE terrorists ended up killing four Tiger terrorists at about 7.55 a.m.

Troops suffered no injuries in the incident.

At about 9.45 a.m. the same day (6) troops confronted another group of terrorists in KOKKUTHUDUWAI and opened fire on them. One Tiger terrorist died of gunshot injuries and three more terrorists were wounded.

Three soldiers were also reported injured in the clash and subsequently evacuated to hospital.

After a couple of hours to the above clash, Tiger terrorists unsuccessfully tried to break the security defences in KOKKUTHUDUWAI area around 11.15 a.m. on Wednesday (6).

Troops resisted valiantly and killed one more terrorist while injuring three more cadres.

In the same general area Wednesday (6) two more terrorists were killed by the troops when they were on a search operation around 5.00 p.m.

One soldier, injured during those clashes was rushed for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, in ANDANKULAM and WELIOYA areas, troops shot and killed two terrorists, the same day (6) around 5.00 p.m. when Tiger terrorists tried to attack the troops.

Troops reacted fast and got rid of two terrorists while injuring some more of their fellow-terrorists.

Meanwhile, two groups of soldiers who were on an ambush in the general area of PERIYAPANDIVIRICHCHAN killed four terrorists and injured at least nine terrorists Wednesday (6) between 12.00 - 1.30 p.m..

Another ambush laid by the troops in VILATTIKULAM area Wednesday (6) at about 9.50 a.m. killed one terrorist. Terrorists also retaliated during their withdrawal and their fire injured one soldier. The injured soldier was admitted to VAVUNIYA hospital.

Meanwhile, Army Snipers in the general areas of PARAPPANIKULAM and SIRIKULAM, MANNAR killed three terrorists on Wednesday (6) at about 8.35 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. in two strikes.

Troops again launched an attack on an LTTE bunker in the general area of KOKKUTHUDUWAI, WELIOYA on Wednesday (6) at about 11.15 a.m. One more terrorist died in troop fire and three more were injured.

In the meantime, troops in KALWADI, JAFFNA on information recovered a claymore mine weighing about 25kgs from an abandoned land in the area Wednesday (6) around 11.30 a.m.

In the meantime, troops on search and clear operations Wednesday (6) during early hours recovered 360 liters of diesel and 100 liters of petrol from PALLIMUNAI area, MANNAR. Those items were set to be transported into un-cleared areas for the use of Tiger terrorists.

In another development, Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel Wednesday (6) at around 6.00 a.m. arrested a Tiger terrorist suspect from PORATHIVU area while he was carrying a hand grenade.
