MANNAR: A TOTAL OF NINE TIGER TERRORISTS, unable to face the resistance of striking troops now raging in the WANNI and MANNAR sectors, surrendered to the troops at MURUNKAN roadblock this morning (01) and last evening (31).
Those nine Tigers of 61, 52, 35, 32, 28, 27, 24, 23 and 17 years of age were fighting against the troops in MANNAR and WELIOYA sectors at the time they decided to give up LTTE and run away. Eight of those terrorists were in the jungles surrounding MANNAR committing atrocities against the troops, taking part in the most recent attacks. The remaining one has jointly launched attacks in WELIOYA against the troops, according to their confessions.
Eight of those surrendees reached MURUNKAN roadblock between 9.30-10.00 a.m. Friday (01) morning. One has reached the same roadblock last evening (31) at about 4.30 p.m.
Strangely enough, one of those terrorists has escaped swimming across the famous Giant tank (Yodha wewa) in MANNAR before he reached the roadblock, according to the escapee.
All those surrendered Tiger cadres were handed over to MANNAR Police station for onward procedures.
