WELIOYA & WANNI: TROOPS NOW STORMING the LTTE heartland in WANNI and WELIOYA struck terrorists for another day on Thursday (31) inflicting damages to the terrorists.
Several intermittent clashes between troops and Tiger terrorists in the general area of WELIOYA during Thursday (31) resulted in heavy casualties and defeats to the LTTE.
The early morning clashes at WELIOYA killed four terrorists and injured several more terrorists at about 6.45 a.m. Troops effectively responded to their attempted firing on the troops.
In KATTUWANKUMALE, the same day (31) troops attacked another pocket of Tigers and killed one of them. Tiger terrorists who came across a group of soldiers on a search operation in the area tried to open fire on those soldiers around 1.20 p.m.
Two more Tiger terrorists in the meantime fell dead when the troops attacked them while the terrorists were on a secret mission in WADUKKODAI area Thursday (31).
Troops on an offensive operation stormed an LTTE bunker in KALLIKULAM Thursday (31) and killed at least eight Tiger terrorists who were resisting troops at about 9.10 a.m.
A large number of other LTTE cadres were also reported injured badly in the incident.
No injuries on troops were reported.
Meanwhile, troops in NAVATKULAM the same day (31) traced the movement of some Tiger terrorists along a jungle foot path. They were close to one of their (LTTE) bunkers in the area. Troops reacted fast and killed two terrorists after surrounding the area at about 12.55 p.m.
Similarly the LTTE bunker was also razed to the ground.
In the meantime, troops in SANGARAPURAM, VAVUNIYA the same day (31) after information recovered two T-56 magazines, 208 T-56 ammunition and several other items belonging to LTTE from a jungle in the area at about 4.45 p.m.
Three hand grenades were also recovered by the troops from PALAVI, MANNAR the same day (31) during a search operation around 10.30 a.m.
Meanwhile, in the general ADAMPAN area troops on Thursday (31) killed one terrorist while on a search operation at about 11.00 a.m.
In the meantime, troops in KOKKUTHUDUWAI, WELIOYA Thursday (31) unearthed 80 anti personnel mines.
