Disable War Heroes Enjoy SLLI Project Under One Roof at Maharagama

In a rare gesture of fellowship and interaction, more than 1500 disable War Heroes from all corners of the island gathered under one roof on Monday (21) evening at Maharagama National Youth Council auditorium to enjoy a mammoth and finely choreographed musical fiesta, presented by the popular ‘Marians Unplugged’ band.
 
The novel in appearance, yet most deserving rhythmic arrangement for those differently able War Heroes with permanent injuries, resident at Army-managed Ragama Ranaviru Sevana, Attidiya Mihindu Seth Medura, Abimansala 1 (Anuradhapura), 2 (Kamburupitiya) and 3 (Pangolla) and Ranaviru Resource Centre, Hekitta for the rest of their lives, was launched as an initiative cum a valuable project of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry’s (SLLI) Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Amal Karunasekara, following the full blessings of the Commander of the Army.
 
The gathering of those differently able War Heroes, perhaps for the first time under one roof, met one another and attentively enjoyed old and latest hits, sung by Nalin Perera, Sunil Perera and the clan for over three and half hours at a stretch and the entertainment was coloured by several eye-catching dancing spectacles of Army troupes and others.
 
Major General Jagath Dias, Chief of Staff, representing the Commander of the Army, graced the worthy cause as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the SLLI Colonel of the Regiment. Major General Amal Karunasekara warmly received the day’s Chief Guest and ushered to the main auditorium before oil lamp lighting ritual got underway.
 
Most senior SLLI veterans, former Commanders of the Army General Shantha Kottegoda (Retd), General Daya Ratnayake (Retd), their spouses, former Presidents of Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), Principal Staff Officers, Directors, Senior Officers, ASVU members, invitees and a host of other ranks enjoyed the show with overwhelming enthusiasm.
 
Patronized jointly by the SLLI Seva Vanitha Unit and the SLLI Regimental Headquarters, the musical extravaganza tantalized War Heroes of our times who had sacrificed their legs and limbs for Sri Lanka’s territorial integrity, adding an aroma of bravery, blended with the eye-catching flow of the entire show as the house burst into applause when some of the courageous War Heroes moved to showcase their inherent musical and dancing talents amid thundering applause.
 
Marians Unplugged’, considering the SLLI’s noble objective behind the notion of entertaining those disable War Heroes, has offered their gratis patronage to the event.
 
As a token of appreciation of the contribution of ‘Marians’, a replica of a caparisoned tusker and separate mementos were presented to Nalin Perera, Sunil Perera and the ‘Marians’ group by the Chief Guest.  
 
Mrs Dananjani Karunasekara, Chairperson, SLLI Seva Vanitha Unit welcomed Mrs Sharanki Dias, Vice President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit executive member and Chairperson, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Seva Vanitha Unit on arrival at the venue with the Chief Guest.
