To be in parallel with the Commander’s notion of erecting new houses for both Army personnel and needy civilians, the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) took steps to build two new houses for a disable widow and a woman soldier serving the 683 Brigade.
On the directions of Major General P.U.S. Vithanage, Commander, SFHQ-MLT, 18 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the 682 Brigade under the 68 Division of the SFHQ-MLT, in consultation with the Gramaseva official in Shivanagar area, put up a new house to the widow, Mrs Anton Keil Parashakthi, considering her miserable plight.
The funds for the erection of the house for Mrs Parashakthi were provided by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), following a proposal submitted by the SFHQ-MLT.
Another new recruit of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Private N. Desajani, a resident in Udayarkattu Grama Niladari Division in the 683 Brigade area who is currently working at the SFHQ-MLT, meanwhile was twice happy to receive a new house, built by her fellow-soldiers in the 16 Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA), following the sponsorship given by a philanthropist in Colombo.
Mr Sunil Muthumala, a businessman in Colombo provided financial assistance to erect the new house for this woman soldier as the troops of 16 SLA offered free labour and architecture.
Both new houses were handed over to the beneficiaries in two separate ceremonies, held at respective locations, headed by Major General P.U.S. Vithanage, Commander, SFHQ-MLT and a host of senior officers on Monday (7).
Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 68 Division, senior Police officers, state officials and relatives of both recipients were present during the ceremonies.
