Two Japanese Embassy officials in Sri Lanka, Ms Mariko Yamamoto and Mr I. Ratnayake on Wednesday (26) met Major General Nandana Udawatta, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) at the SFHQ-J premises with a view to receiving an update on general matters of concern to them in Jaffna Peninsula.
Major General Nandana Udawatta presented a briefing to the visiting envoys and explained them the present security situation and roles and tasks of the Army in the peninsula during the meeting.
In the meantime, foreign senior military officers of the 55th National Security and Strategic Studies Course of National Defence College (NDC) - India together with their spouses visited Jaffna on the same day. The delegation headed by Major General Rakesh Prathap Singh Bhaduria, Senior Directing Staff, NDC comprised 15 student officers from India, New Zealand, UK and USA.
During their brief stay at the SFHQ-Jaffna, officers of the delegation were given a detailed account on Jaffna, its geography by Brigadier D.S Weeraman, Brigadier General Staff SFHQ-J.
In the meantime, they paid tribute to the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) Monument at Palaly.
Major General Nandana Udawatta presented mementoes to the delegation as tokens of Memory.
