Thoughtful Army Officers Gift Wheelchair to Student

Two officers serving the 23 Division in Punani under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) in a magnanimous gesture of kindness and considerateness, pocketed out their own money and gifted a wheelchair to a school student, suffering from a spinal injury during a brief meeting on Wednesday (5).

The 13-year old, W.G Nishanthi Madushika from Aselapura area, Welikanda, confined to a chair, following spinal injuries, finds it difficult to go for studies on foot and remained in need of a wheelchair when the information about her plight was brought to the notice of Army personnel serving the area.

Major M.G.J.G Kobewalla, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) and Lieutenant D.V.H.S Dasanayaka, Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) on hearing her requirement, promptly offered their financial patronage for purpose of buying a wheelchair.

On Wednesday (5), those officers invited the beneficiary to the 23 Division Headquarters and made her comfortable with her parents before the new wheelchair was gifted to her by Major General D.D.U.K Hettiaarachchi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Division Headquarters at the 23 Division Headquarters.

The recipient’s parents and a few Army officers were present at the occasion.
