Strengthening bonds of close cooperation and service commitments further, the newly-appointed Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral R.C Wijegunaratne WV RWP & Bar RSP USP ndc psn, on Thursday (16) morning paid his maiden visit to the Army Headquarters to exchange courtesies with his counterpart in the Army upon assumption of office.
On his arrival at the Ministry of Defence (MoD) premises, a formal Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by troops of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps, greeted the guest who inspected the parade in keeping with military traditions. He was received by Major General E.M.M Ambanpola, Deputy Chief of Staff at the entrance to the MoD grounds.
Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva after extending a warm welcome to the new Navy Chief at the main entrance to the Commander’s Secretariat, introduced his Principal Staff Officers to the guest.
During the brief meeting with the Commander of the Army afterwards, both of them exchanged views on general matters of importance to both services and how cooperation between both organizations could further be enhanced.
Offering best wishes on the new appointment, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva awarded a memento to the visiting Navy Commander as a symbol of goodwill and understanding. The gesture was reciprocated.
Before his exit from the Commander’s office, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne placed his signature in the VIP visitors’ book at the Commander’s Office.
