A blood donation campaign, organized at the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) to coincide with the 6th Anniversary of the SFHQ-MLT and Poson Full Moon Poya Day got underway on Wednesday (3) in coordination with the Mullaittivu Army Base Hospital, Mullaittivu District Hospital and Mullaittivu Blood Bank.
The campaign, supported by 371 officers and other rankers, marked a record collection of 371 pints of blood, the highest hitherto collected by Mullaittivu Blood Bank according to Chief Medical Officer, Dr Rajitha Siriwardena who said that the SFHQ-MLT arrangement broke the existing record of 335 pints of blood.
The day’s blood donation drive began after two religious ‘Anusasanas’ (orations), delivered by Ven. Polonnaruwe Thilakankara Nayake Thero of Kiriibbanwewa Sri Pradeeparamaya and Ven. Rajapokune Ariyarathana Thero of Parakramapura Rajapokuna Rajamaha Viharaya who explained the virtues of such programmes as merit invoking.
Major General K.W Edima, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (FMA) at SFHQ-MLT closely supervised and coordinated the arrangement on behalf of the Commander, SFHQ-MLT, together with senior officers and others.
