UN Fallen Peacekeepers Day Commemorated


The United Nations (UN) International Day of Peacekeepers was commemorated in Sri Lanka with a Wreath Laying Ceremony for the fallen Sri Lankan UN peacekeepers on Friday (29) during a special ceremony at the Institute of Peace Support Operations Training - Sri Lanka (IPSOT-SL), Kukuleganaga.

This special ceremony was held to coincide with the UN International Peacekeepers day which falls on 29 May.

Ms Beth Crawfort, the UN Assistant Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

After a two-minute silence for the fallen peacekeepers, Ms Beth Crawfort, together with Major General B.A. Perera, Director General General Staff, Brigadier K.P.A Jayasekara, Director Training at the Army Headquarters and Brigadier H.P.N.K. Jayapathirane, Commandant, (IPSOT-SL) laid floral wreaths in front of the photos of fallen peacekeepers.

Tri-service officers and troops who had been deployed in UN Peacekeeping Missions were present to commemorate their fallen comrades.
