Troops Offer Maximum Support for Ex-Combatant's Funeral in Ponnaveli


Army troops serving the 66 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) offered all their assistance for conduct of the funeral of the rehabilitated ex-combatant, John Mariyaseelan Justin Felix (35) of Ponnaveli, Pooneryn who died in a motorbike accident on Monday (11).

On hearing the tragic death, the troops immediately helped the bereaved family by putting up two temporary shelters, providing drinking water bowsers and 70 packs of biscuits as well as 3 main meals on all three days until the day of the funeral (13).     

The victim who had reportedly gone to watch a football match, close to Jaffna, had been riding a motorbike when he crashed into a water bowser of the Pradeshiya Sabha (Local Council), close to the Pooneryn junction and succumbed to injuries.

The victim who had undergone rehabilitation in Pompemadu and Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centres before he was re-integrated into society a few years back, was popular in the area at the time of his untimely death.

With the blessings of the Commander, SFHQ-KLN and on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 66 Division, troops also assisted the burial arrangements which took place on Wednesday (13).

A senior officer and a few soldiers were in constant touch with the bereaved family during the two days and facilitated arrangements accordingly by providing all possible assistance.
