Troops of the 23 Division Headquarters at Punani under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) did their share for commemoration of the Thrice Blessed Day, ‘Vesak’ during May 3-5 by actively contributing to the multi-coloured decorations along Batticaloa - Polonnaruwa main road.
The most attractive piece of decoration was put up by the troops at the main entrance to the 23 Division Headquarters, where the troops, together with Major General N.J Walgama, Commander, SFHQ-E, Major General D.D.U.K Hettiarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division as Chief Guests, visited the location and participated in a ‘Maha Dansela’ (big free eatery) that supplied free meals to more than 13,000 Vesak sightseers of the area.
More than 100 officers serving the area as well as a large group of more than 500 other rankers in addition to more than 13,000 civilians in the area enjoyed free meals, provided by the 23 Division Headquarters near the main entrance to the Headquarters.
Major General Walgama, together with the 23 Division General Officer Commanding closely looked at the decorations along the main road.
