World's End Army Rescuer Felicitated in Company's Annual Sales Conference

The rescuer, Sergeant Sudesh Lalinda of 3 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) who risked his own life and recently saved a Dutch national from death in the World’s End, was felicitated in the Annual Sales Conference of the Hemas Company Limited, held at Hotel Citrus, Waskaduwa on Friday (8).

The Annual Sales Conference (ASC), said to be the biggest event in the company with ‘sales force’ gathering under one roof for conferencing, has invited Sergeant Sudesh Lalinda as a living hero in contemporary times, to share his daring rescue experiences and motivate their sales representatives, who had gathered there from every corner of the island.

Sergeant Lalinda who was earlier felicitated in his office by the Commander of the Army after promoting him to the current rank, has given his blessings for his presence at this Conference to narrate his breathtaking rescue operation of the Dutch national, Martinez Lawrence (35) after the Human Resource Development branch at Hemas Company, wrote to the Commander seeking Lalinda’s participation.

Soon after his detailed account of the heroic adventure with photos, media clips and images found articulation in the presence of the gathering, Senior Directors of the Hemas Company together with Mr Imtiyaz Aniff, Manager, Human Resource Development, presented him and his senior officers with symbolic mementos and valuable gifts amidst cheers in a standing ovation.

The memento presented to him read as follows; ‘You are the interpretation of bravery in our times. Hero, Sergeant Sudesh Lalinda who brought fame home from international society through sheer dedication, commitment and exceptional bravery serves as a dignified inspiration to our Sri Lankan company’.

Collective consciousness, disciplined commitment for betterment of others, strong determination to reach set goals, sound health, proper mental status, Army training, strength, courage and bravery contributed to the rescue of the valuable life of a foreign national, Sergeant Sudesh Lalinda told the gathering who welcomed him to a thundering applause.

Lieutenant Colonel Amitha Perera, Commanding Officer, 3 (V) SLSR, Major Asitha Ranthilake, Company Commander of the Unit at the World’s End also received appreciative gifts from the company representatives for their contribution to the success story of Sergeant Sudesh Lalinda.

Sales Director, Hemas, Director Human Resources, Hemas, Marketing Director, Hemas and a few senior officials were associated with award of felicitation gifts.   

Bravery, Presence of Mind and Life-threatening adventure of Sergeant A.M Sudesh Lalinda of 3 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), his Company Commander, and fellow - workmates who rescued the Dutch national at Horton Plains were hailed at the ceremony at the Army Headquarters earlier on February 25 after the incident took place on February 21.
