New Year celebration of the 53 Division was held on Friday (10), with the participation of Officers, Other ranks and their family members.
Major General M.A.M Dias, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 53 Division, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest where many traditional games and entertainment session were conducted.
As the celebration terminates, the Annual Volleyball tournament was held representing troops from Division Headquarters, Under Command Brigades, Battalions and Air Mobile Training School.
5th Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment became champions while 1st Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment became the runners up.
Second Lieutenant J.H.M.N.T Jayapathma, Private B.M.S.N Balasooriya, Private K.V Keerthirathne were selected and awarded the best attacker, best setter and best player respectively.
The Brigade Commanders of Air Mobile Brigade, 532 Brigade, 533 Brigade and all Commanding Officers of under command battalions also witnessed the event.
