The widow, Mrs Wijayakumar Chandrakumari with five children from Kilinochchi area on Sunday (12) was the recipient of a New Year gift by way of a new house, constructed by the troops, following patronage extended by a philanthropist.
Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) taking this initiative after hearing that the beneficiaries were living in a shanty-type slum, explored possibilities of building a new house for the family.
At the request of the SFHQ-KLN, the Colombo-based philanthropist, Mr A.PJeyraj, Proprietor, Nithya Kalyani Jewellers sponsored the construction which was carried out by the 18 Gajaba Regiment troops of the SFHQ-KLN.
On Sunday (12) during a simple ceremony, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe symbolically handed over the keys of the new house to the family of Mrs Wijayakumar Chandrakumari and her children.
Brigade Commanders, senior officers, state officers and villagers attended the event.
