A total of 46 more professional officers who have joined the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) in the second phase of the ‘Api Army’ programme after successful completion of the basic military training course at Diyatalawa SLAVF School, passed out on Friday (21) in a ceremony, graced by Major General Lawrance Wickramasinghe, Deputy Commandant, SLAVF as the Chief Guest.
Those forty six professionals, including 17 lady officers from diverse fields of discipline, have pledged their allegiance to serve as professionals when required by the SLAVF.
In accordance with military traditions, a military parade, commanded by Major A.T Hajji, Chief Instructor at the SLAVF Training School and Major H.G.K.S Dharmadasa, Adjutant at the SLAVF school as the second in command of the parade, saluted the Chief Guest.
The chief guest reviewed the Guard Turnout accorded in his honour by the troops and was later ushered to the saluting dais. After inspecting the parade comprised of passing out professional officer cadets, award of swords took place in recognition of their merits.
Afterwards, the Chief Guest Major General Lawrence Wickramasinghe, addressing the officer cadets extended his felicitations to the professionals on their right decision to join the Army with excellent standards of drill, poise, dignity and graceful bearing.
A number of senior officers and family members of passing out professionals were also present at the ceremony.
On account of fall out of these officers, an elegant dinner night also took place the previous evening (20). Brigadier Nevil Weerasinghe, SLAVF Principal Staff Officer, Colonel R.M. Kumarasinghe, Inspector Training, Colonel Senerath Kohona Commandant, Volunteer Force Training School and Course Officers were present during the ceremonies.
