Spectacles provided by Rotary Club of Kandy to the Security Force Headquarters Killinochchi (SFHQ KLN) were distributed on Sunday (16) among 332 visually impaired civilians at the Nelum Piyasa auditorium in Kilinochchi.
The project, initiated by the troops of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps in cooperation with non-governmental organizations, was meant to help the civilians with impaired vision by providing glasses free of charge.
A medical camp to screen eye ailments was conducted, prior to the distribution of spectacles on 5 October at the Killinochchi Harmony Center with the assistance of optometrists, provided by Kandy Rotary Club.
Some of those patients were referred to district and general hospitals for further consultations after initial examining was conducted on them.
Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander attended as the Chief Guest for the start of the distribution. Brigadier A.N Amarasekara, Commander 571 Brigade, many senior officers and civilians were present at the event.
