Seva Vanitha Ladies Take Relief Supplies to Meeriyabedda Mudslide Affected Civilians

A group of Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) senior members, led by Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, ASVU, sensitive to the requirements of both children and civilians affected in the recent landslide in Meeriyabedda-Koslanda, went to see them on Wednesday (5) together with a large stock of relief supplies and children's accessories.

Those ASVU ladies at first visited the Poonagala relief centre where some 141 civilians and 85 children remain sheltered and distributed ASVU relief supplies among them.

Afterwards, those ladies met the displaced, housed at Koslanda relief centre and gave away relief supplies to 33 civilians and 13 children after exchanging a few words with them.

Towards the end of the programme, those ladies arrived at the mudslide-affected area where hundreds of Army personnel are still engaged in search operations to find the buried. Those ladies shared a couple of views with those soldiers at work and inquired into their well-being.

The ASVU team included Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, Mrs Sepali Samarasinghe, Vice President, ASVU, Mrs Dhammika Hathurusinghe, Chairperson, Mechanized Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Deepika Udawatta, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Monika Vithanage, Chairperson, Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Dananjani Karunasekara, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Light Infantry Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Shiroshi Jayasuriya, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Thilanthi Perera, Mrs Deepika Wickramasinghe and several senior Army officers.
