Various Social Service Projects Launched in the East


Troops of 221,231 and 242 Brigades, under 22, 23 and 24 Divisions in the Security Force Headquarters East (SFHQ-E) recently carried out various community projects for the benefit of civilians.
 
An Eye Clinic, held at Ampara  screened 319 students of several schools in the area and prescribed medicine and other remedial measures to the children with eye ailments and poor vision. The project was assisted by Nandadasa Kodagoda Foundation, Dharma Vijaya Foundation and AHH (A Helping Hand) and organized by the 242 Brigade Headquarters. The five-day medical clinic was spearheaded by the eye surgeon, Dr. Nalin Gunasinghe.
 
Meanwhile, 24 Division had a discussion with Muslim religious leaders in Ampara area, regarding the promotion of reconciliation among various communities on Sunday (26). General Officer Commanding (GOC), 24 Division along with several military and civil officials were presence at the occasion.
 
Troops of 27 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) in the meantime distributed drinking water to 168 drought-affected families at Ilangathurei village, Trincomalee on Monday (27).
 
2 Gajaba Regiment (GR) similarly organized a ‘Shramadana’ campaign to clean the premises of Paleiuththu Children’s Park, Trincomalee and Annei Orphanage, Sumedankarapura on Friday and Saturday (31 and 1).
 
In the meantime, troops of the 6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) conducted a ‘Shramadana’ campaign to clean the surrounding of Pulleyar Kovil, Thiriyaya on Saturday (1). On the same day 12 GR troops donated dry ration packets for distribution among displaced people in Koslanda, Haldummulla.
 
On Sunday (2) 6 VIR Troops conducted another ‘Shramadana’ campaign to clean the surroundings along the Nilaweli coastal belt  and 12 GR troops, renovated the electric system and they have been requested to get two new ceiling fans be fixed for the main hall of Pudur Vigneshvara Tamil College, Manmunei North.
