Next Contingent on UN Peace Keeping Missions Ready for Departure


One more Sri Lankan Army contingent, comprised of Navy and Air Force personnel on UN Peace Keeping Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), due to leave the island shortly had its passing out parade at Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Regimental Headquarters premises at Boyagane, Kurunagala on Friday (31).  

The 850 strong contingent from Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) included Navy and Air Force personnel, is commanded by Colonel M.P.A.K. Wijenayake of VIR and is expected to leave during the first week of November, 2014.

Major General Jagath Dias, Colonel of the Regiment as the Chief Guest for Friday’s passing-out parade received the salute of the contingent which will serve Haiti for a period of six months.  

This is the 20th contingent, expected to leave for Haiti on UN peace keeping assignments. Sri Lankan peace keepers provide security to all key towns along main roads and suburbs, preventing different armed groups from engaging in violence.
