Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), intending to support smallholders in the agricultural sector, resident in resettled villages of Bogaswewa and Veheratenna in Vavuniya, launched a programme to distribute seeds for cultivationof grains and vegetables with the sponsorship of the ‘Hadabima’ Authority and Rain Forest Reserve Institute.
500 families at Bogaswewa and 260 farming families at Veheratenna under this programme received those seeds for cultivation of vegetables, like brinjals, tomatoes, long beans, radish, green gram, cowpea, etc, agricultural equipment and other incentives.
The distribution ceremony of seeds at Veheratenna, headed by Brigadier K.G.D Perera, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, took place as planned.
All 260 families in Veheratenna were the beneficiaries of this project.
At Bogaswewa, all 500 families in addition to seeds received agricultural equipment and other accessories as part of the distribution programme.
Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W as the Chief Guest at the distribution ceremony under the theme ‘Farming for a better future’, gave away those seeds separately on Saturday (25). Representatives of the ‘Hadabima’ Authority and Rain Forest Reserve Institute, Divisional Secretaries and a large gathering attended the occasion.
