9 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops in a simple ceremony at Kokkuthuduvai Government’s Tamil Mixed School in Mullitivu gave away a large stock of school accessories and exercise books to 85 selected Tamil school children as incentives for studies.
The distribution ceremony on Thursday (25), attended by a gathering of religious leaders of Catholic, Hindu and Buddhist denominations was held in the presence of Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) as the Chief Guest.
Divisional Secretary for the area, 62 Division and 622 Brigade Commanders, Grama Niladhari and staff in the school witnessed the distribution, carried out as another reconciliation measure.
Meanwhile, a dry ration and drinking water distribution programme, launched by the 62 Division Headquarters, saw low-income groups in Gajabapura, Monerawewa, Mayawewa and Kalyanipura receiving those reliefs, each packet worth Rs. 1000/= in addition to 5 litre water bottles.
Brigadier K.G.D Perera, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division attended the distribution ceremony. A private TV channel sponsored the relief items.
