To coincide with the ‘World Cleanup Day’ (Sept 24), Jaffna-Vettalakerni based 55 Division Headquarters, launched a cleaning programme in all Brigades, Units and Training Centres in the peninsula.
The half-day programme collected polythene, plastic throwaways, garbage, software pieces and environmentally harmful elements from respective areas. More than 100 soldiers carried out those cleaning projects on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Division.
Polythene and plastic waste materials, thus collected were delivered to the 552 Brigade Headquarters for recycling since they are in the practice of doing so for so many months.
On the same day 55 Division troops cleaned up the surroundings around Kaddeikadu provincial hospital since the area was infested with garbage.
