Wanni Children Prioritized for Distribution of Clothes &;amp; School Items

‘Sleeping Children Around the World’ (SCAW) of Canada further expanding its programme of helping the children in the Wanni sector at the request of the Rotary Club of Kelaniya, distributed a large stock of school items among students at Medawachchiya Maithreepala Senanayake Central College during a brief ceremony last week.
 
The SCAW under this year’s programme expects to distribute sleeping kits and school items to a target of 4000 students in the Wanni. As recent as early last week, they distributed a stock of sleeping kits among 1600 students in Kilinochchi.
 
The programme at Medawachchiya was attended by the 211 Brigade Commander, Brigadier D.T Gamage and several representatives of the Kelaniya Rotary Club and the donor, SCAW.
 
Meanwhile, a stock of readymade apparels that can be used by children below 14 years of age was donated to the children living in the area during a simple ceremony, held at Gajabapura temple on Wednesday (9).
 
The stock, made available by the Governor for Northern Province, Major General (Retd) G.A Chandrasiri was given away after proper surveys on the most needed were done.
 
Monks, 621 Brigade Commander and several officers were associated with the event.
 
In the meantime, more than 500 school students of low-income groups in Bogaswewa areas, Vavuniya were gifted with school bags and stationeries, following patronage, extended by Ven. Embilipitiye Vijitha Thero, Mr Jude Appuhamy of Katuneriya and members of Mr Appuhamy’s family members.
 
The event at Vavuniya Bogaswewa Maha Vidyalaya on July 6 was attended by Brigadier D.A.R Ranawaka, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division and several senior officers.
