Kandana, De Mazenod College had its ‘Colours Night - 2014’ recently with Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) as the Chief Guest and Major General Boniface Perera and Air Vice Marshal Ranil Gurusinghe as Guests of Honour, together with Captain H. Ekanayake of Sri Lanka Navy.
The awarding ceremony at De La Salle Hall presented colours to 221 boys and girls of the college who did exceptionally well in the fields of athletics, cricket, swimming, football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, gymnastics, carom and wushu. In addition, merit certificates, achievement certificates, special awards and star awards were also awarded to the recipients.
Major General Udaya Perera, in a brief speech to the occasion appealed parents to encourage their children to participate in sports as much as possible.
Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, together with the Principal, Rev Brother Bertram Perera, gave away colours to those students. The Chief Guest and Guests of Honour are old Mazenodians.
