Visiting Australian Cricket Team Loses to Jaffna Combined Team

After an absence of 42 years a friendly match organized by the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) in cooperation with the Foundation of Goodness (Guna Jaya Sathuta Padanama) included a young team from Australia.

The combined school team from Jaffna who fought against Yarra Valley Cricket Association Team (YVCAT) team from Australia at Jaffna Central College grounds on Friday (4).

Having won the toss, Jaffna Combined School Team captain Alan Raj decided to bat first and scored 183 for loss of 4 wickets. Their score included 4 sixes. However, YVCAT captained by Tyson Smith could score only 53 runs for 10 wickets in 13 overs. JCST comprised players from Jaffna Central College, Jaffna Hindu College, St. John’s College, St. Patrick’s College, Point Pedro Hartley College and Chunnakam Skanthavarodai College.

Winners and runners up received trophies, medals and valuable gifts from Commander Security Force Jaffna Major General Udaya Perera and distinguished guests during the award ceremony.

Mr. Kusil Gunasekara, Chairman of Foundation of Goodness coordinated and sponsored the YVCAT in Sri Lanka.  Veteran commentator Mr. Premasara Epasinghe who had been invited as an honoured guest extended his assistance as a commentator as usual. Mr. P. Murugavel and Mr. N. Sivarajah of Jaffna Cricket Umpires’ Association umpired the match.

Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Chief of Staff, Religious dignitaries, Government Agent Jaffna Mr. S. Arumainayagam, Mayoress Jafna Mrs. Y. Pathgunarasa, Principal of Jaffna Central College Mr. S.K. Elilventhan, YVCAT coach Mr. David Peel and Manager Print Vitt and JACT coach Mr. Laksitha Herath were also in the audience.
