A Sil and Meditation programme on Poson Poya day (12) at Panagoda Sri Bodhirajarama Temple, organized by the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on the directions of the Commander of the Army and the SLAVF Commandant, drew a large gathering of devotees, including Army personnel.
This year’s programme, identical to the previous year’s one, saw nearly 2000 - 2500 Sil observers join the Buddha Pooja early in the morning under the auspices of Ven Pilesse Vimaladhaja Thero of the Meegoda Meditation Centre.
‘Leadership Qualities Displayed in Buddha’s Life’ was the thematic topic for the Dharmadeshana (oration) that was conducted before the alms giving at noon. Arrangements organized on the instructions of Major General Mahinda Ambanpola, President, Army Buddhist Association was attended by Major General W.D.L.P Wickramasinghe, Deputy Commandant, SLAVF, senior officers and other ranks.
The programme was coloured by another lecture, delivered by Dr Wasantha Priyadarshana, Senior Lecturer at University of Kelaniya on Buddhist Way of Life.
Ven. Hegoda Vipassi Thero, Ven. Pilesse Maithree Thero and a few more monks conducted the day’s programme.
A Bodhipooja and a Gilanpasa Perahera towards the end of the day’s programme invoked blessings and transferred merits on departed ones, including fallen War Heroes.
