They Actively Work for Dengue Prevention &;amp; Flood Victims


More than 600 soldiers of the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) at the request of health authorities and respective local administrators have thrown their full weight behind eradication of Dengue and provision of relief to flood victims on the directions of the Commander of the Army.

About 250 soldiers on Sunday (8) joined hands together with local government officials and Grama Seva divisions in Biyagama and actively took part in a massive garbage cleaning programme, spearheaded by the Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabhawa.

With the close supervision of Major General U.A.B Medawela, Commander, SFHQ-West, troops went from one doorstep to the other and inspected house gardens, compounds, surroundings, school buildings and its waterways, garbage dumps, marshy spots, etc while educating the public on the life threatening nature of the epidemic.

Meanwhile, another group of more than 25 soldiers carried out another Dengue prevention drive in Dikella village in Kegalle area on Friday (6) by visiting houses in the area, together with Public Health Inspectors. Troops of the 583 Brigade and Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment camp in Kegalle participated in the campaign.

In the meantime, more than 200 soldiers are still working day and night to provide relief to flood affected people in Kalutara District.

Clearing of roads, evacuation of victims to safer places, supply of cooked meals, humanitarian assistance to the weak and the helpless, repair help for reconstruction of damaged houses, alerting the public to possible landslides and earthslips, etc were among major roles and tasks these soldiers performed during the campaign.

Much attention was focused on Megahatenna, Thammedda, Gorakaduwa, Olagoda, Ledola, Galwaga, Walallawita, Agalawatta and Kithulgoda of the Kalutara District by the troops on emergency duties.
