200 spectacles, 100 gift parcels containing school accessories, two pairs of crutches and one wheelchair, all to the value of a little more than Rs 1 lakh, were distributed among residents in Vettalakerni area during a brief ceremony at Pachchilaipalai Divisional Secretariat on Saturday (8).
Lion Mahendra Amarasuriya and members of the Mahabage Lions’ Club, gave away those items to students and civilians who were the beneficiaries. To coincide with the donation, a mobile medical programme to check blood for possible diabetic patients among those villagers, too got underway at the same time.
The programme was organized by 55 Division under the guidance of Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J).
Major General A. Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division as the Chief Guest, 552 Brigade Commander, together with senior officers, attended the occasion.
