Security Force Headquarters (SFHQ) - Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Central, together with Government officials, private sector employees, business community and people in the area celebrated the 66th Independence Day on Tuesday (4), showing their gratitude to the nation.
Special programmes got underway to mark the Independence Day at different places with participation of senior citizens of respective areas. Security Force – (Jaffna), in addition to military ceremonies, held at respective camps, organized a series of community welfare programmes in cooperation with civilians.
A blood donation camp of the 513 Brigade, of Keeramalai got underway for the 5th consecutive year at Inuvil Mc Leord (Pvt) hospital on Tuesday (04). Nearly 86 soldiers serving under the 51 Division donated blood to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital blood bank. Soldiers of the 513 Brigade repaired the dilapidated Keeramali-Adithy road path with the support of villagers.
Meanwhile, 512 Brigade of Jaffna town conducted a Shramadana to clean and colour wash the eye ward at Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Around 40 soldiers participated in the programme.
Troops of the 523 Brigade of Allarai, the same day meanwhile took part in a shramadana to clean the Kaithady State Receiving (Children’s) Home. The place accommodates 40 small children below the age of 5 years who were handed over to the Department of Probation and Child Care on court orders due to absence of parents’ attention. They also conducted a separate campaign to clean the premises of Kaithady Ayurvedic Teaching Hospital. Members of the hospital gave their maximum support to the Army in the campaign. 20 beds of the hospital were repaired and the parapet wall was colour washed by the soldiers. Lunch was served to 58 inmates, including doctors and other staff members by the Army.
In the meantime, 55 Division troops offered lunch to inmates at Kaithady Shanthi Nilayam Elders’ Home functioning under the Department of Social Services. Shanthi Nilayam provides shelter to 189 elderly people, including 07 blind and 47 bedridden aged people. Its yard was cleaned by the soldiers of the 522 Brigade.
Similarly, troops of 12 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) and 20 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) conducted a “Shramadana” to clean the Pallali government hospital and its premises. The same self-help programme cleaned the kovil situated in the hospital premises.
Meanwhile, troops of 10 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 18 (Volunteer) SLLI conducted a “Shramadana” to clean Ampan Government Hospital and Marutankerni Hospital with the participation of senior officers and hospital staff.
In the meantime, the Commanding Officer of 19 SLNG, together with his troops organized a brief event to distribute school accessories and school uniforms worth about Rs. 100,000.00 among students at Vettalaikerni Roman Christian Tamil School and Parameshwari Maha Vidyalaya with sponsorship received from Mr. I.O. Veniculan Burger, Chairperson, Kinder Helper Sri Lanka organization, Kekirawa. On the same occasion, 64 parents in the area also received dry-ration packets from the troops
SFHQ – Kilinochchi under the command of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe marked the 66th Independence Day at their Headquarters after hoisting the national flag.
Similarly, staff at the Divisional Secretariat office also celebrated 66th Independence Day with the participation of Kilinochchi District Secretary and its staff. National Flags were top all state buildings.
In the meantime, SFHQ-C commanded by Major General Ubaya Medawela organized the 66th Independence Day ceremony at their Headquarters premises.
In parallel with the 66th Independence Day main ceremony conducted at Kegalle city, troops of SFHQ – C conducted Diyatalawa railway station beautification drive and cleaned the area to prevent deadly Dengue spreading .
