Sri Lanka Vijayaba Infantry Regiment (VIR), one of the most prestigious infantry units of the Army, honoured one more segment of 1718 War Heroes by awarding ‘Rana Sura Padakkama’ (RSP) gallantry medals during a ceremony at VIR’s ‘Salute Reception’ hall at VIR Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane.
Spouses and family members of 21 fallen VIR War Heroes and 28 retired War Heroes were included among the total of 1718 gallantry medal recipients who accepted those honorary accolades from Major General Jagath Dias, Colonel of the Regiment, VIR in the ceremony.
Those VIR War Heroes selflessly contributed to the successful completion of the Wanni Humanitarian Operations, which eliminated terrorism from Sri Lanka’s soil.
A large gathering of senior officers, retired senior officers, parents and invitees witnessed the event.
